Bakers Mountain Park to reopen Friday
A fire that burned 40 acres at Bakers Mountain Park in southwestern Catawba County this week has been fully contained, and the park will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday, officials said Thursday.
About 280 firefighters battled the blaze over rugged terrain, said Karyn Yaussy, Catawba County emergency management coordinator. No homes were damaged.
Some firefighters will remain at the park through at least Friday, and N.C. Forest Service workers will look for any flare ups.
Park visitors should watch for heavy equipment and response vehicles and stay on designated park trails. No hiking into the area of the fire will be allowed.
