Gun found on a CMS campus for the second time this week, district officials say

A gun was found on a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools campus for the second time this week, officials said Thursday.

Students and staff at Ranson Middle School are safe after a gun was found on campus, CMS spokesman Eddie Perez said. The school is on Statesville Road in north Charlotte, just south of Sunset Road.

Perez did not say if anyone was arrested or if the school went on lockdown.

On Tuesday, a student was found with a gun at Renaissance West STEAM Academy, WBTV reported. Renaissance is off West Boulevard, near Billy Graham Parkway. No one was injured, and law enforcement are investigating, according to the TV station.

There have been at least 28 guns found on CMS campuses since Aug. 26, district spokeswoman Cassie Fambro told The Charlotte Observer.
