Those traveling on the road for Memorial Day weekend will find average gas prices in North Carolina have dropped slightly, according to AAA.

The current average gas price in North Carolina on Friday was $4.36, down from $4.38 a week ago.

The decrease in demand for gas has kept prices stable ahead of Memorial Day, but it could spike this weekend since more than 34 million people are expected to travel by car, AAA said in a news release

“As more people get the COVID-19 vaccine and consumer confidence grows, Americans are demonstrating a strong desire to travel this Memorial Day,” AAA Travel Senior Vice President Paula Twidale said. “This pent-up demand will result in a significant increase in Memorial Day travel, which is a strong indicator for summer, though we must all remember to continue taking important safety precautions.”
