Two Charlotte restaurants received “B” grades during their May inspections by the Mecklenburg County Health Department for multiple violations, including undercooked food and improper food preparation procedures.

La Ceiba Bar and Grill, 4400 Central Ave., received a score of 87 during an inspection on May 12.

Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after an employee was observed cooking chicken at a temperature below 165 degrees. The violation was corrected during the inspection, documents show.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Scrub pads, utensils and food residue at hand wash sinks

  • Perishable foods like raw chicken stored above required temperatures

  • Missing labels on food

  • Food stored on the floor of storage areas

Mega Baleada, 7631 Sharon Lakes Rd., received a score of 87.5 on its May 19 inspection.

A health department inspector observed employees at the restaurant washing their hands for four seconds, well below the recommended time of 20 seconds, and an employee preparing food without a hair covering. Both violations were corrected during the inspection, documents show.

This was the restaurant’s first B grade.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
