Not just for Charlotte: Whitewater expands with new locations across the Southeast
The U.S. National Whitewater Center introduced three new locations that are spread across the Southeast — including another site in North Carolina.
Whitewater Pisgah in Mills River; Whitewater Santee in Huger, S.C.; and Whitewater Grayson in southwest Virginia, will be joining the Whitewater Center in Charlotte.
Activities at Whitewater Pisgah include fishing, climbing, mountain biking, gravel biking, whitewater paddling, hiking and backpacking, trail running and flatwater paddling, according to the nonprofit. At Whitewater Santee, people can participate in all the same activities except climbing.
Accommodations, guiding services, events, instruction, rentals and other hospitality services are available through Whitewater Pisgah and Whitewater Santee, the nonprofit said in a news release. Whitewater Grayson will be open to the public in 2023, the release said.
“Whitewater’s focus is to identify, protect, and promote compelling destinations to get outside. The southeastern United States was a logical starting point because of the remarkable recreational amenities available in this part of the world,” Whitewater CEO Jeff Wise said in the release.
Whitewater also is introducing Gravelmap, an online mapping resource that shows thousands of miles of gravel routes across six continents, the nonprofit said. Gravelmap communicates access opportunities for gravel cycling at Whitewater locations and beyond, according to the nonprofit. This feature is available at gravelmap.com.
