A second suspect has been arrested in the robbery and shooting death of a Charlotte teenager earlier this month, police said Friday.
Yimere Joyner was pronounced dead at the scene after police found the 19-year-old “unresponsive from a gunshot wound” in the 1700 block of Camp Greene Street just before 5 p.m. on July 5, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police news release.
That is near Freedom Drive west of uptown.
On Thursday, July 28, Greensboro Police arrested 19-year-old Demetrius Mason in the case, according to a CMPD news release on Friday.
On Tuesday, July 26, CMPD officers obtained warrants charging Mason with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Detectives asked for the public’s assistance in finding Mason, but police warned that he should be “considered armed and dangerous.”
After Greensboro Police arrested Mason, officers took him to CMPD headquarters for an interview, according to police in Charlotte. Mason was jailed without bail, jail records showed.
Police previously charged 18-year-old Nyquan Demartrice Marriner with first-degree murder, armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery, according to Mecklenburg County Jail records.
Marriner also remains in custody without bail, jail records showed.
Police have not said if the robbery was random.
The homicide was the city’s 53rd this year.
CMPD urged anyone with information about the shooting to call police Detective Blair Fitch at 704-432-8477 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at 704-334-1600. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous, police said.
