Deck collapses at beach house; at least 14 injured
At least 14 people were injured Saturday night when a deck collapsed at a beach house in Emerald Isle on the N.C. coast, fire officials said.
Three or four of those were critically injured, Emerald Isle Fire Chief Bill Walker told the Observer. All 14 were taken to Carteret General Hospital, Walker said, adding that the deck collapsed because too many people were on it.

Carjackers shoot driver outside restaurant
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a reported carjacking early Saturday that left one person shot in the parking lot of a Denny’s restaurant.
Police said two people approached a 2013 black Camaro about 5 a.m. at the Denny’s on Sunset Road and shot the driver in the arm when he refused to open the window.
The assailants took off in the car, and the driver was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. David Perlmutt
One seriously injured in east Charlotte shooting
One person was seriously injured in an east Charlotte shooting Saturday morning.
Police said shots were fired around 1 a.m. at the Park Creek Apartments on Perth Circle, near Milton Road. WBTV
