The Camino Center celebrated the first day of Hispanic Heritage month on Thursday in Charlotte with its Camino “Celebra Arte & Cultura” event. The bilingual nonprofit infused Hispanic culture and art with an array of displays including a Guatemalan art exhibit and its Journey of Hope mural. As Latinos from around the region gathered, they shared testimonials, danced to music and enjoyed enchiladas and esquites (Mexican street corn) and other Latino-inspired cuisine before organizers announced results of a new strengths and needs study of the Latino community in Mecklenburg County by the Camino Research Institute. Hispanic Heritage Month runs through Oct. 15.
