I-485 outer reopens in N. Charlotte after early morning crash leaves 3 dead, 1 injured

Three people were killed and another person was injured early Sunday in a crash on Intestate 485 in Charlotte, officials said.

The crash happened shortly before 4 a.m. near University City Boulevard and shut down the outer loop on I-485 between exit 32 and 33, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

I-485 was closed between University City Boulevard and North Tryon Street until around 1 p.m., according to NCDOT officials.

One person was taken to a hospital and the others died at the scene, MEDIC confirmed.

Names of the victims and the cause of the accident were not immediately known Sunday.
