Thousands in Charlotte are without power after Duke Energy equipment damage

Thousands of Duke Energy customers in south Charlotte were without power Monday morning after damage to company equipment late Sunday night.

The incident, reported along I-77, caused several outages that affected nearly 3,000 customers. Service was not expected to be restored until 6 p.m. Monday, according to the company, but updated outage maps show the issue has been resolved.

The service disruptions were first reported around 8 p.m. Sunday night. Initial estimates from Duke Energy had placed repair times at 2:45 a.m. on Monday.

The outages primarily affected south Charlotte customers along Billy Graham Parkway, East Woodlawn Road, a stretch of West Tyvola Road and portions of Montclaire South near West Arrowood Road.

Duke Energy customers are advised to report outages on the company’s website or call 800-544-6900.
