Head-on crash between CATS and school buses injures 3, closes part of Randolph Road
A CATS bus driver suffered a “medical emergency” that led to a head-on crash with a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus and shut down part of Randolph Road on Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
Two other people — one on each bus — suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Medic.
None of the seven students on board school bus No. 1422 was injured, CMS said. The bus was headed to Park Road Montessori School.
The inbound lanes of Randolph Road at Aylesford Road in southeast Charlotte, were closed until the investigation was cleared, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said. CMPD canceled the traffic alert shortly before 2:30 p.m.
The wreck happened around 8:30 a.m., CMS said in a statement. That’s just southeast of Wendover Road.
The Charlotte Area Transit System driver suffered the emergency while driving the Route 15 bus, according to the Charlotte Fire Department. The bus then crossed the lane and struck the school bus, fire officials said on Twitter.
The students were evaluated and taken to school to meet their parents, Medic said.
