A 56-year-old man in a wheelchair was trapped inside a burning home Monday night in Charlotte and died, according to fire department officials.

Three other people were seriously injured, and a family is left with $110,000 in damages.

Charlotte Fire tweeted that they were responding to the fire on Eastbrook Road in a neighborhood near The Plaza and W.T. Harris Boulevard, in northeast Charlotte. When firefighters arrived the fire had spread through the roof of the two story home.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police reports indicate that the fire began around 10:30 p.m. There were three adults and five children in the home at the time, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Red Cross of the Greater Carolinas is helping the family, a spokesperson for the organization said.
