Good news, drivers: The South End road angst is winding down.
Work to install a larger main water line, which has caused major traffic headaches in South End, is finally nearing its end, Charlotte Water officials said this week.
Crews have finished removing all of the barrier wall along South Boulevard that was needed for the project, “signaling the end of the major, impactful roadway work,” Charlotte Water said on Twitter on Tuesday.
To address rapid South End development, the city has spent 2 1/2 years replacing a water main that was installed in the 1920s and ‘30s with a main water line providing four times the volume, according to the South End Water Main Improvement Project page.
“Water main” is a term for a main water line.
Crews replaced the old water main in South Boulevard between Scaleybark Road and Worthington Avenue.
Still, drivers are not entirely in the clear.
Expect daily closures through November as crews wrap up work, Charlotte Water officials said.
