A 61-year-old woman died early Monday after being hit by a car in the NoDa neighborhood, officials say.

The collision happened about 6:30 a.m. near Matheson Avenue and North Tryon Street, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. Mingji Jin, CMPD said in a statement, was “standing in the left travel lane on Matheson Avenue when she was struck by” a car.

“Ms. Jin was not in a crosswalk or near an intersection while in the roadway,” CMPD said. “At the time of the accident, lighting conditions in the crash location were dark and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.”

Paramedics declared Jin dead at the scene, according to Medic and CMPD.

The driver of the car wasn’t hurt and stayed at the scene, police said. Investigators concluded the driver wasn’t impaired at the time of the incident, per CMPD, “speed is not suspected to be a factor in this crash.”
