Northbound crash on I-77 near Fort Mill causes delays on Rock Hill-to-Charlotte commute
A crash on Interstate 77 northbound in South Carolina has slowed traffic for Charlotte-bound commuters, officials said.
The collision on I-77 near Gold Hill Road, south of the North Carolina state line, had lanes blocked around 7:45 a.m., according to the York County Sheriff’s Office and S.C. Department of Transportation cameras.
DOT Web cameras showed northbound traffic on I-77 backed up past Rock Hill to beyond Exit 82.
The collision was reported before 7 a.m., according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety traffic Web site.
Sheriff deputies and S.C. Highway Patrol troopers remained on scene Tuesday morning.
It is unclear when the wreck will be cleared and lanes will re-open.
I-77 in the area south of the state line has the highest daily traffic count in York County.
Police advised drivers to use U.S 21 as an alternate route during the morning. But as of 8 a.m., that road already was loaded with traffic.
