Employees were evacuated from a Walmart in Salisbury after they discovered a suspicious package, Salisbury Police said in a news release Wednesday. The bomb squad was sent to the scene.

Officers were called to the Walmart on the 300 block of Arlington Street. Employees found the package before the store opened for the day, police said. No customers were in the store at the time, and police have advised that the public avoid the area.

Salisbury Police, Salisbury Fire, Rowan County Emergency Management and the Cabarrus County Bomb Squad were on the scene as of 8 a.m.
