4 Matthews residents treated for possible rabies exposure

Four Matthews residents are being treated for possible rabies exposure after being scratched by a fox that also bit a dog Thursday in the Paces Commons apartment complex off Matthews Township Parkway, police said.

Police shot and killed the fox at about 12:30 p.m. after it acted aggressively toward them in the Paces Commons parking lot, Matthews police Officer Tim Aycock said.

Aycock urged residents to make sure their pets’ rabies vaccinations are up to date and to be cautious of any animals displaying symptoms of the disease.
