Weather service warns the coldest day is still ahead for Charlotte region
The National Weather Service’s bulletin early Friday morning says a wind advisory is in place for Charlotte, all surrounding counties and beyond until 7 p.m.
Strong winds, including gusts up to 40 and 50 mph, were felt before dawn. That’s expected to continue for the morning.
A wind chill advisory is in place, beginning 5 p.m. Friday and into Saturday, 1 p.m., according to the weather service.
Early Friday, NWS warned of “Cold wave invading the region” and said the wind and resulting frigid temperatures is from an artic airmass moving through the region.
“Very windy conditions will also develop and persist from this morning into tonight. An unusually high risk from wind chill impacts can be expected across the region, including frost bite and hypothermia, especially tonight as temperatures plummet,” the bulletin said.
Saturday is expected to be the coldest day locally over the period.
NWS forecasts the wind chill Saturday for Charlotte could be minus-4 degrees, with a high of 30.
