Accused bank robber in custody in Davidson County

A man wanted in connection with a July 14 bank robbery in Lexington, N.C., was captured during a traffic stop Wednesday night.

The suspect, Randy Earl Asbury, was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies in Davidson County.

Asbury was wanted for robbery with a dangerous weapon. The robbery took place at New Bridge Bank on Old U.S. 52.

An arrest warrant had been issued, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.

Asbury faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny.

He was taken to the Davidson County Detention Center and given a $500,000 secured bond.

He was also wanted on a federal warrant for escape. No bond was set for the federal warrant.
