Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services issued a no-swim advisory for a Lake Norman cove Sunday after 8,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the water, officials said.

The advisory was issued for the cove near 21328 Nautique Boulevard in Cornelius, according to the storm water agency.

The discharge was caused by a blockage in the sewer line, which has been removed, officials said.

The no-swim advisory will be lifted when “bacteria levels are determined to be suitable for human contact,” according to a news release from the agency.

Mecklenburg County residents can get notifications about no-swim advisories by texting MECKNOSWIM to 888-777.
