1,000 in Charlotte neighborhood lose power after car crashes into utility pole

A hit-and-run into a Charlotte utility pole left more than 1,000 waking up without power Wednesday morning.

Duke Energy crews were expected to be working in the Dilworth and Freedom Park neighborhoods, near Scott Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue, until about 5 p.m., according to the Charlotte-based company.

“The outage was caused by a vehicle damaging our equipment,” the Duke Energy’s website said. Outages were first reported at about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Paramedics did not respond to the scene.
