The streets of uptown Charlotte are expected to be packed with drivers for the Fourth of July and officials are warning drivers to be prepared for a busy night.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issued an alert about heavy traffic and road closures around Romare Bearden Park for a fireworks show at Truist Field.

“Please avoid driving in Uptown if possible tonight,” CMPD said in a media alert. “Please do not stop on the shoulder of the interstate to view fireworks, it creates a major safety hazard.”

The 2023 WBT SkyShow, described as “the biggest and best 4th of July fireworks show in the Southeast,” will take place during the Charlotte Knights game, which begins at 6:35 p.m. To see the fireworks from inside the ballpark, you’ll need a ticket to the game, but you’ll be able to catch the fireworks throughout the area.

According to CMPD, the heaviest impact to traffic in uptown will be between 9-11:30 p.m.
