Searchers on Lake Norman recover body of swimmer who jumped from cliff, police say
Emergency workers recovered the body of a swimmer who jumped off cliffs into Lake Norman Tuesday night and never resurfaced.
The person disappeared about 7:45 p.m. in the 21100 block of Nautique Boulevard in Cornelius, according to a Cornelius Police Department news release. That’s off West Catawba Avenue and Interstate 77 Exit 28.
Police reported the recovery of the person Wednesday afternoon without naming the person or releasing further details about the drowning.
Officers searched the area with responders from the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Department, Huntersville Fire Department, Charlotte Fire Department and Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue.
“We would ask that you keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this time,” police said on Facebook. “Thank you to all mutual aid lake agencies for providing assistance.”
