Whitewater Center plans to open a 70-acre dog park this fall. No leashes required
The U.S. National Whitewater Center plans to open a 70-acre, off-leash dog park at its complex in November.
Dogs are already a common sight at the Whitewater Center, but pets are required to be on a leash. That will change in the new dog park. The enclosed park will also have a new Lake Center facility, which will include an open-air biergarten, lake-front beach, a retail outfitter, and water and trail access.
The Whitewater center, 25 minutes away from uptown Charlotte, contains 1,300 acres of woods, lakes and trails. The new park will surround the existing 3-mile Lake Loop trail. An additional trail will follow the perimeter of the dog park, allowing other visitors to avoid the off-leash area.
Dogs and humans will be able to use the park starting on Nov. 17. Only one dog per day pass holder, additional dogs will cost $50 each. A single-activity pass for the dog park will cost $10.
Stephen Youngblade, the center’s director of brand marketing, did not know how much the park is projected to cost.
News of the park was first reported by Axios Charlotte.
All sizes and breeds of dog are welcome at the park, according to the Whitewater Center. Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times.
