Two people who fought back against a 16-year-old who allegedly beat them with a gun in a stairwell of their apartment building ultimately turned the tables on the youth after getting control of his weapon, police say.

The residents held Tarion Deshawn Henley at gunpoint until officers arrived at the scene, in the 1700 block of Oak Gate Drive in the Steele Creek area, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The victims said Henley approached them as they were walking up to their apartment around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two said Henley hit them over the head with the gun and demanded money. A witness called police as the victims fought back.

Henley has been charged with two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a handgun by a minor, police said. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries. Upon his release, he was taken into custody by deputies from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The victims were treated for minor injuries at the scene by Medic.
