‘Several roaches’ and flies found during inspection at Charlotte Chinese restaurant
A north Charlotte Chinese restaurant received a “B” grade and had its permit revoked by the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including the presence of roaches and flies.
Cottage Restaurant, 1704 Harris Houston Rd., received a score of 84 during its Sept. 5 inspection.
Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after a dead roach was “observed on a cutting board that an employee was actively using,” documents show.
The restaurant was also dinged when a live roach was found in a meat grinder, another on a prep table, “several live roaches” in potato starch and flour bulk bins, and “dozens of dead roaches” stuck on walls, dry storage bins and in cabinets, documents show.
Inspectors also noticed a “large amount of flies” in the restaurant, documents show.
Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:
Raw tuna and pre-cooked imitation crab stored in the same cooler
Meat residue on meat grinder
Heavy food buildup on most utensils and food contact equipment
Lo mein and breaded chicken wings stored above required temperatures
Food stored on floor in freezer
This is the restaurant’s fourth “B” grade since August 2021. It received a “C” grade from the health department, with a score of 75.5, last June, documents show.
The restaurant will be required to control its pest situation before re-opening, documents show.
According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
The Charlotte Observer contacted the restaurant for comment regarding its score prior to publication.
