Police officer hit while directing traffic at CMS elementary school during drop-off

Mint Hill Elementary School

An officer directing traffic outside Mint Hill Elementary School was hospitalized Thursday morning after being hit by a car, officials said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools told WSOC, The Charlotte Observer’s news partner, the car struck the officer around 7:15 a.m. It’s unclear if the driver will face any charges.

Paramedics took the Mint Hill Police Department officer to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center near uptown Charlotte. The district said the officer had non-life-threatening injuries.

This is a developing story.
