Pedestrian killed on Charlotte highway Saturday. ‘All outbound lanes are blocked’

Police were at the scene of a fatal wreck involving a pedestrian at a major Charlotte intersection on Saturday night.

The pedestrian was hit at Independence Boulevard and Idlewild Road, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said on X just after 5 p.m.

Medic said its paramedics pronounced a person dead at the scene about 4:30 p.m.

“All outbound lanes are blocked,” police said, referring to Independence Boulevard. “Please avoid the area.”
