Duke Energy names new NC president
Duke Energy has named David Fountain, senior vice president of enterprise legal support, as its new North Carolina president.
Fountain will succeed Paul Newton, who is retiring, on Sept. 1.
He will be responsible for managing state and local regulatory and governmental relations, economic development, community affairs, water strategy, hydroelectric licensing and lake services.
Fountain will be based in Raleigh, as he is now.
Fountain joined Duke with its 2012 merger with Progress Energy, where he had served as vice president of the Progress legal department. He joined Progress’ predecessor, Carolina Power & Light, in 2000.
He earned bachelor’s, master’s and law degrees at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar.
