Rescuers pulled a man from a well 75-feet deep on Friday afternoon after he’d fallen and was caught for about an hour northwest of Shelby near the rural town of Lattimore.

Members of the Cleveland County EMS and the No. 7 Volunteer Fire Department near Lattimore worked to get the man free, then called in the Shelby Fire Department, a Cleveland County dispatcher said. The incident happened just before 4:30 p.m. off the 1300 block Double Springs Church Road, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.

The man was reported to be in his mid-30s. It’s unclear how he fell into the well.

“It was far back off the road,” the dispatcher said. “We heard reports that someone had to be lowered down to him.”

His injuries are unknown, but authorities say he is alive. David Perlmutt
