Homicides rare in York
The incident Saturday night is unusual for the city of about 8,600 people in western York County.
FBI online data show reported crimes there since 1985. There have been two homicides reported in York since 2017.
After 17 reported homicides from 1985 to 1995 (including five in 1990 alone), the city dropped to just 11 homicides in the past 28 years, according to FBI data. There haven’t been more than two in any year since 1994. Only three times in that span has the city had more than one homicide in a year.
For all violent crimes, the city hasn’t had 100 or more reports in a year since 2008. The city averages 60-80 such reports a year, since 2012.
