ABC store hours change in Charlotte for Memorial Day weekend. Here’s when to buy booze

Many are gearing up for the long holiday weekend, and if you want to kick off the unofficial start of summer with any alcoholic drinks, you’ll need to plan ahead.

Here’s what the ABC Commission of North Carolina says about when liquor can be bought or sold in the state: “No ABC store shall be open, and no ABC store employee shall sell alcoholic beverages, on any Sunday, New Year’s Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. A local board may otherwise determine the days on which its stores shall be closed.”

While some counties may be open on Memorial Day, Mecklenburg County is not one of them.

According to the county ABC board, all locations in the Charlotte area are closed on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day

  • Memorial Day

  • Juneteenth

  • Independence Day

  • Labor Day

  • Veteran’s Day

  • Thanksgiving Day

  • Christmas Day

With ABC stores closed every Sunday, you’ll only be able to buy your booze on Friday and Sunday.

There are several grocery and convenience stores that will be open on the holiday too if you want to grab any beer or wine:

  • ALDI

  • Food Lion

  • The Fresh Market

  • Harris Teeter

  • Lidl

  • Publix Super Markets

  • Sam’s Club

  • Target

  • Trader Joe’s

  • Walmart
