Three of four northbound lanes on Interstate 85 near Charlotte remained closed for hours because of a wreck, state highway officials said Tuesday. The lanes reopened about 1:15 p.m.

The early-morning wreck closed three right lanes at exit 63 at Lane Street in Concord, according to the state Department of Transportation real-time traffic map.

“Expected impact to traffic is High,” officials said on the map.

Drivers detoured onto U.S. 29, highway officials said.

The crash occurred in the backups caused by an earlier fuel spill, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported.
