Scattered thunderstorms will hover over western North Carolina today with stronger thunderstorms likely in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Some severe storms with heavy rainfall are expected in the I-77 corridor. There’s also potential for cloud-to-ground lightning.
The high temperature is expected to be about 93 degrees with a heat index of about 100.
The forecast for Friday, the weekend and early next week looks clear. The high temperature will linger in the low 90s over the weekend and early next week.
