Girls rock (’n’ roll) at Spirit Square on Saturday
At Girls Rock Charlotte Summer Camp, girls ages 10 to 16 form a band, write their own song and learn an instrument in one week.
The point is to empower girls through music education – the program combines music with confidence-building workshops to build self-esteem and to help the girls find their voice. It all culminates with a public concert Saturday at McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square. Proceeds from ticket sales go to scholarships for campers.
“We already have a waiting list for 2016,” said camp director Kelly Finley. “The whole purpose of the camp is to give the girls rock star confidence and a strong voice.” Michael Weinstein, Diedra Laird
