Charter school principal accused of failing to report student sex abuse, NC police say
Kannapolis Police charged the principal of a public charter school with failing to report sexual abuse against a student, according to a police statement Wednesday.
Police also charged a teacher at the school, Concord Lake STEAM Academy, with five counts involving sex abuse against a student, according to the statement released by city of Kannapolis spokeswoman Annette Privette Keller.
Principal Kendra Brown Woods, a 42-year-old Charlotte resident, was arrested Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of failure to report abuse and failure to report crimes against juveniles.
Woods was released from the Mecklenburg County jail on a $2,500 unsecured bond, jail records show.
Teacher Tyler Christian Woods, 23, of Kannapolis, was charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count each of disseminate obscenity to a minor and permitting a minor to assist in obscenity.
Tyler Woods was released from the Cabarrus County Jail on a $100,000 bond, jail records show.
Kendra Woods and Tyler Woods aren’t related, police said. Neither could be reached Wednesday by The Charlotte Observer.
Police released no further details about the arrests.
