Thanksgiving Day fire displaces eight, prompts safety reminder from Charlotte firefighters

A house fire early Thursday displaced a family of eight and prompted a safety reminder to the community from Charlotte firefighters.

Six adults and two children were in the home at the time in the 6300 block of Woodfield Drive, fire officials said on social media site X,. That’s in the Eastway neighborhood in northeast Charlotte.

Everyone got out safely, and no injuries were reported, officials said. The family declined assistance from the American Red Cross, according to the fire department.

Thirty firefighters controlled the blaze in 20 minutes, according to the fire department. Charlotte Fire investigators estimated damage at $63,000.

The fire started in a trash can outside the home, spread up a wood fence and then into the attic of the home, investigators determined.

Make sure trash cans are stored away from structures and flammable materials, fire officials urged. And regularly inspect areas outside your home for fire hazards.
