CMPD: Students cut by glass after shooting into Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus window
At least one student was injured Monday afternoon after gunfire struck a school bus in east Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the scene on the 8800 block of East W. T. Harris Blvd., where it meets Idlewild Road south of Albemarle Road. An Infiniti and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus were found shot into at the scene, according to CMPD.
Approximately 30 students were on board at the time of the incident, CMS said. No one on the bus was shot, according to MEDIC.
At least one student was injured by broken glass, authorities said, though it’s unclear how many were treated for injuries. CMPD said two students on board were treated for glass cuts while Albemarle Road Middle School Principal Toni Perry said in a message to parents one student was injured and treated by MEDIC.
An arrest has been made, but police haven’t released further details.
Perry described the shooting as “a serious incident involving bus 1748,” in her message to families.
“A dispute outside the bus led to a shooting which broke a window on the bus,” Perry said.
Perry said that another bus was en route to transport students, and crisis counselors will be on-campus and available to students Tuesday.
