A former Cabarrus County Schools teacher was arrested Tuesday on felony counts of taking indecent liberties against a student, court records show.

Cameron Sanders, 26, of Salisbury was released on a $45,000 secured bond after his arrest by Concord Police, according to the records in Cabarrus County District Court.

Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC first reported the arrest.

The three counts against Sanders stem for an Oct. 23 incident, according to court documents. His next court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 23.

Sanders started with Cabarrus County Schools in August 2021 and voluntarily resigned on Nov. 18, school system spokesman Philip Furr said Friday.

Sanders taught science at Concord High School and earned a salary of $48,872.50, Furr said.
