Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers made 18 arrests and confiscated six guns during Tuesday’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in uptown Charlotte, police said Saturday.

Police said they arrested eight adults on drug, weapon, disorderly conduct and other charges and 10 young people ages 10 through 15.

“There were no major incidents during the scheduled holiday festivities in Uptown,” police said in a statement. No injuries were reported.

Charges against the minors included violating the city’s youth protection ordinance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to CMPD.

The ordinance imposes a curfew on everyone 15 and younger. Anyone 12 and younger is prohibited from businesses and public places from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. all week. Ages 13 through 15 are barred from businesses and public places from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

CMPD visited homes of youth offenders

Police said they later cited and charged the minors’ parents or guardians with contributing to delinquency and neglect by parents and others.

Before the celebrations, CMPD officers with the Juvenile Apprehension and Diversion Empowerment unit visited the homes of young people who’d previously committed offenses. Officers did so to ward off criminal behavior during the festivities, CMPD said.

“Out of 10 home visits conducted by the JADE Unit, there were no juveniles who re-offended on New Year’s Eve,” according to the CMPD statement.

Adults charged with having concealed weapons, being disruptive

Police identified adults they arrested during the festivities and their charges as:

Murray Edwards, 42, carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.

Rassell Young, 18, carrying a concealed weapon, resist/delay/obstruct and possession of marijuana.

Jergio Jesus Pavon-Reyes, 18, possession of a stolen firearm.

Kaheem Brower, 28, affray.

Donaven McCoy, 29, affray.

Dashawn Douglas, 29, carrying a concealed weapon.

Treshawn Goff, 27, carrying a concealed weapon.

Genesis Roland, 19, carrying a concealed weapon, resist/delay/obstruct and possession of marijuana.
