I-77 South congested between LaSalle Street and John Belk Freeway

A collision on southbound Interstate 77 is causing backups and heavy congestion from LaSalle Street to the John Belk Freeway, N.C. Department of Transportation has reported.

The collision, reported at 8:02 a.m., is described as “high severity.” The exact location of the vehicles involved has not been reported.

Meanwhile, expect delays on northbound I-85. A collision at Sam Wilson Road was reported there at 7:09 a.m. The average speed is about 20 miles per hour on I-85 between Cox Road and Sam Wilson, according to N.C. DOT.

On southbound I-85, congestion is heavy due to a wreck reported at 8:05 a.m. at the I-77 ramp. Details about that wreckwere not immediately available, but the incident is described as high severity.

Elsewhere, a hit-and-run was blocking part of the street at North Wendover and Randolph roads at 7:46 a.m., according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

In a separate incident in the Steele Creek area, a wreck was blocking part of the road at 7:41 a.m. at Youngblood Road and South Tryon Street.

A traffic signal is out at South Boulevard and Sharon Road, and delays are expected.
