Interstate 85 in Charlotte closed for hours after fatal wreck on Saturday, NCDOT says

A fatal wreck closed Interstate 85 North in Charlotte for at least five hours Saturday morning, state highway officials said.

One person died and four people were hospitalized, including one with life-threatening injuries and three with serious injuries, MEDIC said on the social media site X.

MEDIC pronounced the person dead at the scene.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near the North Graham Street exit.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol released no details on Saturday.

I-85 reopened around 8:30 a.m., highway officials said.
