Cycling group riding Carolinas in support of 12 fallen public safety officers

A cycling team of 43 firefighters, cops and emergency personnel, will sweep across Mecklenburg County and through uptown Charlotte on Wednesday as part of a 595-mile ride through the Carolinas to support the families of 12 fallen public safety professionals.

The team, called the Carolina Brotherhood, is riding to build emotional and financial support for the families of the fallen, all killed in the line of duty last year.

The riders will make their way through Mecklenburg and ultimately to Monroe to honor Sgt. Jeffrey Greene of the Union County Sheriff’s Department. They’re expected to cross into Mecklenburg over the Catawba River bridge on Wilkinson Boulevard about 2:30 p.m.

They should ride through uptown an hour later and arrive at fire station 3 on Monroe Road about 4:30 p.m. before heading to Union County on Monroe Road through Matthews – to Monroe.
