Dogs rescued from Alabama shelter arrive in Charlotte

The Humane Society of Charlotte is taking in some of the animals that were reportedly neglected while at the Lawrence County Animal Shelter in Moulton, Ala.

More than 200 dogs and cats found homes during a two-day adoption event in Alabama. The remaining animals are being transported to shelters in 10 states.

On June 30, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals assisted the Moulton Police Department in removing more than 300 animals from the Lawrence County facility.

The animals were suffering from neglect and numerous medical problems, according to a statement from the ASPCA. They were cared for at a temporary shelter while they received medical care.

The Humane Society of Charlotte assisted by transporting 12 dogs to its shelter, according to the ASPCA.
