A storm front that crossed the Charlotte region early Sunday left thousands of power outages in its wake, according to N.C. Emergency Management.

More than 57,000 outages were reported in the state as of 3:30 p.m. Sunday, and the bulk appeared to follow the Interstate 85 corridor, maps show.

Mecklenburg County led the state with more than 9,000 without power, Duke Energy reported.

In surrounding counties, nearly 3,000 are without power in Gaston County, 1,500 in Rowan County and 1,750 in Iredell, state officials said.

The National Weather Service warned outages might result from a front that brought thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 45 mph to the region around 7:30 a.m.
