Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are asking for help to identify a man who robbed a Charlotte hotel in early July and less than an hour later shot a clerk in another hotel.

On July 2, surveillance cameras at the Drury Inn and Suites at 415 W.T. Harris Blvd. showed a black man in his late 20s with a handgun walk into the hotel and shoot the clerk while she talked on the phone. The suspect fled without taking anything.

The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police repeated Wednesday that Drury Inn has offered a $5,000 reward – in addition to the Crime Stoppers award – for information that leads to the suspect’s identification and arrest.

Forty minutes earlier, the same suspect held a Roadway Inn clerk at gunpoint and robbed an undisclosed amount. That hotel is on West Sugar Creek Road.

Police re-sent photos of the suspect to Charlotte media on Wednesday, asking for help from the public.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. David Perlmutt
