Kings Mountain police say the remains of a woman missing since 2021 have been found and identified.

Police in Kings Mountain and Gastonia worked with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and confirmed that remains found in a wooded area of Gastonia were of Angela Burris, according to a news release. They matched the remains to her with DNA analysis.

She went missing in April 2021 at age 36. Burris’ aunt has said Burris sat outside their home with a teddy bear and a duffel bag the day she went missing, according to The Charley Project, which logs missing people.

The Charley Project says her daughter just started college then.

“While current investigations conducted by all agencies involved do not indicate any signs of foul play, we encourage anyone in the community with information — whether small or significant — that could shed light on the events leading up to her death to come forward,” Kings Mountain police said in a news release Monday.

Anyone with information can call 704-734-0444 to speak to Kings Mountain police. To remain anonymous, tips may be submitted through the Cleveland County Crime Stoppers P3 app, or by calling 704-481-8477.
