Person hit by a train on a busy Charlotte road Friday night has died, police say

A 62-year-old man was hit and killed by an Amtrak train Friday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

William David Biggerstaff was walking in the middle of the westernmost track near the 9600 block of Old Concord Road in northeast Charlotte when the collision occurred, police said.

The train was traveling southbound on the same track, CMPD said. He was found unresponsive with serious injuries.

MEDIC pronounced Biggerstaff dead at the scene.

Old Concord Road was closed between Suther Road and Lexington Circle as police investigated.
