Expect delays on Interstate 77 today at S.C. stateline

Travelers taking north or south bound Interstate 77 this weekend should be prepared for delays at the South Carolina state line.

Paving crews have the four-lane interstate down to two lanes in the two miles before the Carowinds Boulevard Exit. On the north bound side, the interstate is down to two lanes starting at the Gold Hill Road exit.

The speed limit through the area is 45 miles per hour, and traffic will likely back up during high traveled periods, particularly as crowds head to and from Carowinds theme park on Carowinds Boulevard in the mid morning and late evening.

On Friday, the paving work on southbound Interstate 77 had traffic backed up to the Woodlawn Road Exit during the 5 p.m. rush hour.
