What is Ballantyne named after?
Howard “Smokey” Bissell, one of Charlotte’s most famous real estate developers, is credited with transforming the neighborhood. He named the neighborhood after his aunt, Barbara Ballantyne, The Charlotte Magazine reported.
The area was once a large hunting tract. But in 1992, Bissell and Charlotte real estate giant, Johnny Harris, started the Ballantyne Corporate Park, a now 535-acre business/office space which includes hotel and conference space, an 18-hole golf course and more.
